Re: Defeating your own locks.....

I cannot overemphasize the importance of installing quality locks. Cheap locks are only marginally better than no locks at all. I recently replaced a cheapo exterior deadbolt five pin tumbler lock because I was able to rake it open less than 20 seconds. Don't buy Kwikset locks. It's well worth the m...

Ironically, the only thing I'm worried about occurring on December 20th, 2012, is rioting/looting/general mayhem caused by loons who are worried about what may occur on December 20th, 2012.

Re: melee weapons?

I recently visited an Ace Hardware store and noticed a selection of hickory railroad pick handles. After handling one, it seemed like one of these could cause substantially more damage than a baseball bat. Here's a link to the closest thing I could find online: http://lawn-and-garden.hardwarestore.c...

If I heard something outside my house, I wouldn't "go investigate"...I'd call the police. What he said. If I heard something inside my house, my go-to gun would be my Remington 870 and Surefire light. ETA: MY EYES! Can we leave that in its original thread? I thought I was safe from Crypto's...

Re: 1st attempt at FAK(s).. Need opinons/pointers!

I admittedly have very little experience in this field, but it looks like you could use: 1: Kerlix/Gauze 2: Nitrile gloves 3: CAT tourniquet More importantly, get training for the usage of the above equipment. Also, remove the survival gear. It's good stuff to EDC, but it has no place in a FAK. Just...

Re: Just bought a Yugo SKS, anything i should know?

Keep an eye on the gas valve. Make sure to clean that well or it will be a pain to rotate/remove later. Not sure what the previous owner did to mine, but my valve was pretty badly pitted when I got it. The rifle would stove pipe every round. Luckily it was a pretty easy fix. I just replaced the gas ...

Re: Cold Steel Mini Tac Kiridashi

I just picked up one of these a few days ago. It looks to me that this knife was made entirely as a defensive thrusting weapon. I don't know much about carving, but it seems like it would work pretty well for that too. Probably the best feature about this knife is the handle. It is incredibly secure...

Another +1 for scouting. I'm an Eagle Scout and I constantly use the skills I learned in scouting (probably more than I'm aware of). More importantly, scouting helped cultivate interests that led me to further educate myself in the field of disaster preparedness. It may sound cheesy, but the skills ...
