Re: Louisiana Camp and Shoot July 16th - July 17th 2010

Hey guys and gals, long time no see. I just found this thread and it sounds great. Unfortunately, I'll be in Tennessee for the entire month of July, so I won't get to hang out with you guys. So please post pics and be sure to drink some cold ones for me. Josh

Re: Best 8 round 1911 mags?

I like Wilson Combat 47D's or their ETM's. I also own several Chip McCormick Shooting Star mags as well. Some of my shooting buddies rave about the Tripp Cobra mags, but I haven't tried them yet.

Re: Anyone have any FF advice?

Hey DTOM, I want to thank you for volunteering to serve your community. I have lots of respect for properly trained and active volunteer FF's. There are lots of things I could tell you, but most you will have to learn on your own. I will, however, share a few time tested truths with you. First, this...

Re: EDC Rescue Knife

Spyderco makes a very nice rescue knife with a serrated blade and window punch. I currently carry the Gerber on duty and I love it. I wouldn't carry it off duty because of the size and weight though.I think the belt cutter slot on the SOG is too small, but YMMV.

Re: Warm/Temperate Weather Rain Jacket?

Hey Delta, I have an unlined Columbia rain jacket that I got for 20 bucks. It does well here in the tropics :D . It's not to hot, it has a hood, and it is OD green. It has withstood hurricane season pretty well. It's not high speed like the others but it blends in just as well in town or the woods. ...

Re: What to get a new EMTB student?

Hey Ellie, a big +1 on the Hinderer Rescue knife. I carry one on duty and I love it. If you have an Academy Sports nearby, they are on sale right now for 50 bucks. The sale price and the O2 wrench sealed the deal for me. It seems to be holding up well so far and is easy to use with gloves on. Also t...

Re: What's the current best "single AA" flashlight available?

If you have an oreilly's or auto zone nearby get the energizer 1 AA flashlight. It is about 120 lumens, has a pocket clip, has momentary capabilities, and is 22 bucks. It also has a lifetime warranty. There was a long thread on CPF about it, and the consensus was that it was the best light for the m...

Hey guys, glad yall got home safely. It was great to meet all of you. I really hate that I missed Raptor. We have got to do this again, preferably when I can stay and play all weekend. You all are a bunch of stand up guys in my book! I'm thinking this spring... :)

How the hell did I miss this thread? And only 20 miles from home at that! If I'm not on duty, I'll try to come by and shoot the shit. Do I need to bring anything? I'm looking forward to meeting you guys IRL. I also know of two good gun shops within about 15 miles of Toledo Town if yall are interested.

After use let air dry for a day or so then put the filter in the freezer. Store it there until ready to use. The freezer inhibits growth of nasties. I've been using this method for about 3 months now. So far so good.

Re: Interior wall penetration

A slight derail perhaps. Dannus, I've worked lots of shootings over the years and I can tell you that instant death is a very rare occurance. I've seen lots of people that were fatally wounded and just didn't know it yet. Some were still standing and conscious upon my arrival at least four or five m...

Re: Looking for a better AAA flashlight

I carry the SL Microstream on duty. It's plenty bright for ems calls and such. I also love the pocket clip. It fits perfectly in the little front pocket of my 5.11's. My only complaint is the tailcap switch. It can be a PITA to operate with gloves on, even thin nitrile gloves. Overall, not bad for t...

Another tip is to not stack firewood against your house. You would be surprised how many people do this. Also don't park your boat, motorhome, or anything with a fuel tank right next to your house or under your carport. If the fire is close pull your car away from your home unless it is in an enclos...

Make the trade. The guy I sold my P11 to just traded it in on a 1911. He got a whopping $125 for the gun in excellent condition, holster, and three mags. Yeah, make the trade.

Re: Need cargo pant reccomendations

+1 on Duluth. Get the fire hose pants. They are made out of the same fabric that the old cloth fire hoses are covered in. They take a while to break in, but they are durable as hell. I know they come in carpenter, but I think they also have cargos. If that's not your taste, I suggest dickies, columb...

Re: Glock 30 SF and Fobus Holster

Actually, most lower priced kydex holsters I've seen only have like two small rivets attaching the holster to the paddle. Any six year old could break that easily. I guess most LEOs must be retarded then because their duty holsters have retention systems built in to help prevent gun grabs. I agree t...

Itoz, that's how I carry my spares. I'm not uber tactical or anything, but I use my left index finger along the front of the mag to guide the mag in so I don't have to look down. Is there a better way to do this? If so I am very open to suggestions. I always look forward to better ways of doing thin...

Re: Glock 30 SF and Fobus Holster

There is a really good video on youtube that shows the flaw with a kydex paddle holster. I'm too lazy to look it up, but a guy walks up behind another guy and with one hand breaks the holster off of the paddle and takes gun and holster. Thats why my kydex is iwb. For OWB I use leather attached to th...

FireRanger, I see in your avy that you are issued an SCBA facepiece, and it appears to be a Scott. You can buy filter cartridges that fit that facepiece. We have them for our masks and we use them for overhaul in non oxygen deficient atmospheres. It allows us to doff our packs, but still be protecte...

I've had to have PD pull people out the front door of a still burning store after they pushed around me and stepped over the hoses to get inside. If you go to the Better Business Bureau or office of tourism in whatever city you happen to be in, they will usually have free phonebooks and maps. They sometimes even have the mini phonebooks. That is what I used to do when I delivered magazines to distributors in a new city. They also know the bes...

Although most public service people aren't in it for the thank yous, a sincere thanks is nice to hear every now and then. I once had a little girl that I had treated from the backseat of her crumpled car come up to me in a store and gave me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. I wouldn't even have rec...
