Re: Outskirts of Nuclear Strike- Flee or Stay?

Thanks for the information, guys. A few further questions: 1. On the subject of the radioactive dust and alpha particles, could a dust/respirator/N95 mask provide much protection against the smaller particles? 2. Would automobiles, firearms, cans, jewelry, and other metallic objects really become da...

Re: Outskirts of Nuclear Strike- Flee or Stay?

Wouldn't the EMP make leaving in a vehicle not an easily available option? Also, do the gamma rays irradiate the surrounding area immediately with impact, or do they take some time to spread from the impact zone? Forget about EMP, it wouldn't do anything. Why? I'd thought that an EMP was a side-eff...

Outskirts of Nuclear Strike- Flee or Stay?

You're sitting in a hotel room or apartment on the outskirts of the state capital. All of a sudden, a piercing white light fills the room and everything begins to shake. A massive roar of noise fills the air, and you fall to the floor. Looking out a window, you see a mushroom cloud several miles awa...

Re: Invasion Right Now! The first six hours, what would you

Let's say you make the decision to get out of the area before your backyard becomes the front lines. There are American and foreign military forces engaging all over the place, with the little salients and pockets that develop during an offensive. You can hear explosions, gunfire, and see smoke only...

Re: Invasion Right Now! The first six hours, what would you

I think it would take quite some time for any large scale anti-partisan sweeps to occur. The US military is larger than the next four put together; any invading army is going to have it's hands full at the frontlines between occupied and independent territory. Last thing the occupation forces would ...

Yeah, I can imagine state and federal governments shredding and burning as many of their records as possible before capture.

Re: Invasion Right Now! The first six hours, what would you

The plan would be to hand over the rest of the gun collection if they went calling for them. You'd still have a stash someplace for using later on, but the rest of the collection is large enough to be convincing. Plan is good only for the states where you dont have to register your firearms. In othe...

Re: Invasion Right Now! The first six hours, what would you

The real trick would be striking the right balance of being friendly enough with the occupation force to harm their efforts while avoid getting a one-way ticket to their version of Abu Gharib, but not enough to be the target of a lynch mob when the area is retaken Be aware that"any organized local ...

Re: Invasion Right Now! The first six hours, what would you

Assuming I know the direction the invasion is coming from, Plan A is to grab the relatives and run screaming in the opposite direction as fast as possible. Playing some Red Dawn fantasy out by taking on a modern army with civilian firearms is going to last about as long as it takes for the fir...

Re: Poisoned & Infected Bullets?

Chlorine gas, radiation, water bears....the places a thread goes when you're out for a day. Onto the original question...does the survival of viruses, bacteria, and common toxins seem very plausible? Would a shotgun shell (what the fictional character was wounded by) be any different than a r...

Re: which nations are best "equipped" to survive the ZPAW

The UK's Falkland Islands? Big military garrison, isolated location, sheep herding, minefields for zombies to stumble into, etc. Plus, thousands of penguins snacks walking about. Only major risk would be the Argentine government trying to take the place over(again).

Re: Why do people think ammo will disappear?

How difficult would shotgun shells be to reload and manufacture? Not very knowledgeable on the mechanics of it, but it seems like it would be a hell of a lot easier to make rough slugs, bird, and buckshot out of scrap metal than ammo for rifles and handguns. Instead of being the precise length and w...

Poisoned & Infected Bullets?

In a graphic (insanely graphic , as a matter of fact) novel series called Crossed *, a survivor is shot by a "crossed" attacker. He escapes lightly wounded, but later begins to sicken. Later, a scout from the camp witnesses a group of Crossed gathering ammo and rolling it around in a bucket filled w...

If I have to physically carry all three with me.... An AR-15 in 5.56 with an EOTECH and a one point sling. An M320 in the backpack would make a nice bonus. http://www.superhonda.com/photopost/data/519/medium/IMG_01562.jpg For hunting, a compact Ruger 10/22 with a suppressor and a small sco...

Re: Dead Island trailer

Really enjoying the game so far in single player; I've just made it to the city (Moseby?) and picked up some firearms. I do kind of wish you could make "leadership" decisions though. For example, taking charge of the survivors that save you at the beginning, moving them as a convoy to the lifeguard ...

Most Futuristic Guns

Since the 1980s, there has been quite an explosion in unusual and exotic gun designs. A few look to have been designed more for use against Replicants, Xenomorphs, and Cylons than anything in the present. So what guns look most to you like they belong in science fiction? To me, the Chiappa Rhino rev...

I'm thinking perhaps one of these: http://www.imfdb.org/w/images/b/b4/AA12FullAutoShotGun.jpg -with a flashlight, dot sight, and magazines of AP slugs, Frag-12 rounds, and buckshot. You'd be able to unload a ton of lead in close quarters, as well as have some efficiency at a distance. For miscellane...

Re: A New Town after the PAW

To elaborate on the kind of armies I am worried about: A war like that is just a big pyramid scheme: you take a village and distribute the loot and the women to your men. Then you round up all the surviving men and boys from that village and offer them a simple choice: join us and be reimbursed with...
