Re: Teach me on - 17 HMR
The 17hmr is good for varmints. Small game too, but if you're planning to eat much of them, it's not the best rifle to body-shoot squirrels with. Its a popular rifle in fall turkey season in my area. Also known to work well on foxes, raccoons, possums and fisher. Works on deer with a head shot. I've...

Re: If I'm not going to shoot a long ways why would I want a
Probably depends on the loading in .223/556 really, as well as what you're shooting at. The light-bullet stuff for thin skinned game isn't going to work optimally out at longer ranges, while the heavier stuff probably sheds velocity and only expands/yaws/tumbles/fragments/whatever optimally above a ...

Re: Pink Guns
I dunno. If it gets more people into guns and shooting, it can't be a bad thing. There's strength in numbers.
My stuff is either all black or wood and blue. I don't even own a laminated stock. I can see where a gun-gamer would want to personalize their stuff with different colors.

Re: If I'm not going to shoot a long ways why would I want a
Some places have minimum caliber requirements for hunting deer. The .308 is a fine deer rifle. Lots of guys around here use them for Bear season, as well. I imagine they'd do better on heavier stuff like elk and moose, even though you don't have them in your area. A .308 launches a heavier bullet. S...

Re: Beef Jerky spoiled. What did I do wrong?
You nailed it. If it's not totally dried out, it'll spoil. If it's dried, it'll keep. A lot of people make the "burger jerky" (from ground meat, like the jerky shooter things use), but don't dry it enough. If you get some that's not dried, you can freeze it and it'll keep. As far as homemade jerky g...

Ive got one of the two burner folding colemans, its good for camping or using for picnics and whatnot, but a hiking stove, it aint. Lesson: When the SHTF blow away anyone acting like they are or demanding to be "in charge" before they are in charge and things go wrong. Brilliant plan. People dont have much regard for others, whether its one of the kids eating all of your favorite cookies before you know they're even opened, someone knocking over a fishing rod and one of the eyes scratching your bike's gas tank, tailgating, or driving in the wrong lane. Life lesson- People are dic...

And can I get a ruling on maggie's rifle? Looks like a sporterized 1903/03-A3 to me, by the cocking knob on the bolt and the bottom metal.

Been there. Worked for a "mass marketing" (junk mail) company, repairing and maintaining their high-speed production machinery. Stuff that ran like 12,000 feet of paper an hour. Mostly big Oce printers.Lefthandman wrote:I have been a copier/printer repair man..........

Youll look long and hard before you find a better gun to teach or learn with than a .22.

Could be the ammo. My only experience with magtech ammo was when my buddy showed up with a new hi-point .40 and a couple boxes of ammo.
It seemed to cycle pretty weakly, but I just figured it was the heavy slide.

Re: Surefire G2 upgrade on the cheap?
Ive actually got a couple G2s with the dx LED in them. Ive got a little supply of rechargable 123As from them too, that I use in a 7Z combatlight. Light output is way better than the SF incandescent lamps. Battery life is good with the rechargables, too. I have one of the G2s on my bedroom gun, a m5...

I used to work. Now I'm a student. One day I will probably work again, but I'm not going to rush it. Have fun with that. Im not saying education has no value, but Im just not cut out for it. Mossberg sold a 500 back in the day, in .410. It had synthetic furniture, and the forend had a built in vertical foregrip. I think some may have even had a light or laser built into them. They were marketed as a home defense gun (iirc the model was "HS410" or something). I always thought they'd be ...
