*sigh* I had a nice write-up all ready, but I guess I closed the window before I hit Sumbit. Dammit. Re: Getting Deployed and need to gear up!

I wish we had gotten more of a crash course on the language there and the cultural differences of the ethnic groups. If you've got time, finding out some info on all that and practicing some of the common words & phrases would be helpful. Most people who live there speak pretty good english and ther...

Re: My "improvised" Get Home Bag

Holy Thread Necro, Batman! This pack has recently been replaced by an actual pack, due to the fact that I need a hydration system for the upcoming Milcopp class. I realized that I never did post a list and/or pictures of the bag contents, and that it was actually a pretty solid bag from the get-go. ...

Re: Getting Deployed and need to gear up!

I did a 6 month tour over there way back in 2001-2002. It's pretty built-up (at least where I was) so pretty much anything you need or want can be purchased from whatever AAFES store they have nearby. I would suggest getting a pair of Yak-Trax or something like that to put on your boots while walkin...

Re: WOMEN ONLY - gear for the ladies

Got the chest rig, hydration pack, and "war belt" mostly assembled. Everything seems to play together nicely, but we shall see what happens when I actually have to run around and stuff. I should put my gear on and go mow the lawn--that will draw strange looks from the neighbors and hopefully give me...

Re: WOMEN ONLY - gear for the ladies

This rig is the one I was issued back in 1998 or so: http://www.quartermastersports.com/catalog/146136727_tp_3196_1.jpg What it has going for it is that the mags are stacked horizontally and slightly canted upwards. The mag pouches are on the front of the chest and can be accessed from either side w...

Re: WOMEN ONLY - gear for the ladies

I don't think of anything I'd rather wear less than a tactical corset OR a bandolier type rig. I'll admit the tactical corset looks great, but it's expensive and just not practical. The bandolier rig would flop around (even with a waist strap or something) and I think the single strap running across...

Re: WOMEN ONLY - gear for the ladies

I have re-discovered the Rhodesian/South Africa style vest...It holds AK and/or AR mgs, pistol mags, fits a hydration bladder, has some big side pouches. You can't get the real deal style in the US anymore I don't think. Got mine off fleabay and it was cheap too even with overseas shipping. Comes i...

Re: WOMEN ONLY - gear for the ladies

If they make a belt suspender similar to these http://www.unclesamsretailoutlet.com/U.S.G.I.-M1950-Trouser-Suspenders-8440002210852.html then that might work, as there are only two attachment points and they are offset to the side. I used a set of those to hold up my DCU pants after having sweated m...

So far, the front-runner is this http://www.spectergear.com/593.htm

Not overly huge or complicated, doesn't look like a hot mess with straps and bungees, and looks like it will ride high enough to contain the girls :|

I am in for this year as well. Again, I will be conducting a "field trip" into town to wreck a bathroom, get a soda that's not frozen, etc. I don't care if it's not "hard core", and maybe on the way back, there could be further exploration of the State Park. I've only ever seen the road in, the Rang...

Re: Paw Paw recipe's

So, even though it's been almost exactly one year since the last post on this thread, I found some information that I thought would be pertinent. As a matter of fact, I found some pawpaws today and thought I'd share my experience with this wild edible. First of all, it was the scent that led me to f...

Re: Zombie Con VII - 6/22/2011 - 6/26/2011 - LAST CALL!

One of my co-workers (a Ranger with 32 years of experience) suggested the yellow burn-y Listerine mouthwash as an effective way to combat chigger bites. I will definitely have some on hand just in case.
