Re: Vehicle get home bag list?
I spent a lot of time and thought on this once upon a time. It was a time when I had about a 45 mile walk home if something happened that was so bad that roads were not passable or vehicles were not usable. Given the distance and the weather variability in the mid-Atlantic US, I just kept my BOB in ...

Re: Possible bug-out rig
Late to the party here, but I will echo what others have suggested regarding staying away from the towing capacity numbers. Even more important is the payload capacity; if a 5th wheel trailer has a max weight of 10,000 pounds, for example, you are looking at potentially putting 2000 pounds on your t...

Re: Bug Out Vehicle Porn - pictures only please
It's really been a boon this past year; we bought it in 2019 but in COVID times it has been great to get the family out of the house while remaining in our own "bubble". We have travelled a good bit of Florida and not had to be around other people very much. Kinda what I'm looking for when we sell t...

Re: Preps for a Contested Election in November
I spent most of my life within about an hour's drive of downtown DC.
I am not at all upset to live 1000 miles away from it now.
Even my state capital is about five hours' drive.

Re: Mom's Journal of the Zombie Years
I hear ya. The kids were all still in elementary school when we moved here to Sarasota about 4 years ago; now we will not likely move until the youngest is done with HS in about nine more years. It's pretty nice here, though, so if the time comes that we relocate it probably won't be too far anyway....

Re: Mom's Journal of the Zombie Years
This has always been my favorite Zombie fiction story (on or off ZS), and I now live about an hour south of where the story takes place. If you had told me ten years ago that I would live in SW Florida and be holed up in my house with my family because of a virus, I'd have said you were nuts, but he...

Ah Zombie Squad. It's good to be back home! :awesome: I'll second that, although a bit less facetiously (Sorry, V_Lee) How has everybody been? Long time, no post (although I have been lurking in this excellent thread for a couple weeks). Things here in Sarasota (North of Fort Meyers, South of Tampa...

Re: Hurricane Preps
As with any sort of potential problem or disaster, it is so much nicer to not think about it. After all, if we ignore it, it might just go away, right? Irma was my first Florida hurricane. It was amazing to watch the last-minute running people around here did in the days before she arrived. I know m...

Re: Hurricane Irma AAR - Gulf Coast Florida
I am hearing the lights may be off in the Keys for months in some places as well as the Virgin Islands. You guys got lucky all things considered. Absolutely. Unless a tree went across lines or a water main broke, there was no real impact to infrastructure here. People are grousing at the idea that ...

Hurricane Irma AAR - Gulf Coast Florida
Posting this up as a basic overview of preparations for and experiences with Hurricane Irma's impact on my area (Sarasota, FL). If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to pile on. The potential for Irma to affect my area began to get my attention on Saturday, 02 Sep; about a week bef...

Re: Hurricanes 2017
I lost track of this thread for a whole week. Well, I've been busy. :-) AAR from Sarasota, FL: 1) We got damned lucky here. Instead of a Cat 4 coming at us from the Gulf, we got a Cat 2 after it beat up on Miami/the Keys and Naples/Marco Island. 2) If you're going to have equipment, be familiar with...

Re: Strictly Multitools
For my purposes at least, the Wave is the perfect combination of features, weight, size, build quality and overall design. The Wave is pretty awesome. It's their best-seller for a reason. They also make a tool called the Charge. It's basically a Wave with different handle and blade materials that p...

I work for my university as a parking enforcement officer. Yes, I'm a glorified meter maid. But I basically get paid to exercise every day since we cover the whole campus on foot. To post pics, you'd have to host them somewhere (Photobucket, imgur, etc) and post the links.kana70 wrote:I guess I do not have privileges to post pics, so if you are interested in an item, I will email you pics.

Laager, I thought about the book idea. If you do it in a collection of short stories format like we've had the fortune of getting them it would be interesting to get lil's perspective on them, whenever applicable. So your story followed by her version of it, that'd be comedy gold I think. I would p...
