Re: Homemade Instant Oatmeal
Thread resurrection: Anyone have any idea how well do these keep? Shelf life? We've never had a problem and I know we've eaten some that were in the pantry for well over a year. i would guess the oats will keep pretty much indefinitely, if you add stuff it probably varies according to what it is / ...

Not because I'm "hiding" them, but because she just doesn't care. She has no interest in long guns or large frame handguns, just the subcompacts that she shoots - whenever I bring home one of those, she declares that it's " her new gun" and I can have the old one. :P She really doesn't have an...

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the reaction (or lack thereof) of the rest of the staff & customers. Had Mark & Nate not been there, the clerk may well have just lain there going into shock & bleeding 'till emergency services arrived. Considering that someone had to be told to call, who knows h...

My dad had that exact same radio for ~30 years - it got dragged with us to the beach, picnics, fishing, etc. I remember the handle broke and was all wrapped up with tape, but other than that we weren't able to kill the thing

I'm not a big juice drinker, but my wife is. She buys the concentrate and uses 50% more water than the instructions call for (i.e., if the can says to mix with one quart of water, she uses a quart and a half). Lasts longer that way too.

My wife and I work different shifts, so we make a lot of meals in the crockpot. If you're a bachelor you really need to get one, you will eat a lot better. I put together a quick dinner before I went to bed this morning and thought of this thread, so I grabbed the camera and took some pics. The othe...

Aimpoint 9000L on an AR?
Hey all - Midway is having a pretty good sale on the Aimpoint 9000L - I've been shopping for an optic for my flattop AR, and this caught my interest. I know this is one of their "hunting"-style scopes, but would there be any major disadvantage to using this optic on an AR? I did a little research, a...

Re: Career choices for an outdoorsman?
The problem with the marine biology/wildlife biologist/environmental biologist route is that there are VERY few "hands on" jobs available. Most of the jobs are teaching jobs or "be a lackey to a REAL biologist for $9.00 an hour". Honestly, I'd say Forestry is your best bet. There are plenty of priva...

Camouflage: How to hide an aircraft factory
"During World War II the Army Corps of Engineers needed to hide the Lockheed Burbank Aircraft Plant to protect it from a Japanese air attack. They covered it with camouflage netting and trompe l’oeil to make it look like a rural subdivision from the air."

Re: school me on junk silver.....
Quick question: I've been occasionally buying a 1-oz. (uncirculated) silver coin or ingot to put away for safekeeping. I usually wind up paying a couple of bucks over spot, maybe more if I buy online (shipping costs). A guy with a booth at the local flea market has junk silver coins, and he agreed t...

Re: Experiment with Mink Oil, Old Boots, and Eastern Boot Kit
Just an FYI, mink oil will soften leather - not that this is a bad thing (I love mink oil for bringing back old, mistreated leather jackets), but I've heard of people using it on holsters or gunbelts, then they wonder why the item loses its stiffness or stretches. If this is an issue, you'd be bette...

:D For what its worth, i meant you'll need "credit" when buying a car, not a credit card. Most legitimate dealers won't let you put an entire car on a credit card, even if you have the necessary line. The credit card companies finance charges are just too much. Most places will let you put $3k max ...
