Re: Money, money, money

OK, what about simply converting some of my money to foreign currency in the forum of cash? I've gone to US airports and changed USD to other currencies but that was for a short trip.

What's a safe way to store it that isn't under my mattress? Safe deposit box?

Money, money, money

Hi all, One of the things that preppers advocate, is not putting all of your financial assets in any one currency, or all in US dollars. Now that I've accrued some savings, I'd like to open some accounts with banks outside of US control, that use or hold other currencies, specifically Euros and BPS ...

Re: Preps for a Contested Election in November

I actually implemented the preparatory steps of my "on water" bugout plan yesterday. That's how close I live to the events of yesterday. All that remained was to cast off the lines and go. I remember thinking "I can't believe I'm actually doing this." I'm glad to hear you are ok and I wish we all h...

Re: Food Storage Porn: Hot or Not. Show us pics!

I don't have any photos but... So, winter has come on. We have consumed the last of our gardened vegetables that we grew ourselves. We actually had many green tomatoes that slowly ripened on our window sill into December. I was pleased about this. I still have some blue catfish in the freezer that I...

Re: The Coming Civil War - (Warning: No Politics)

On the topic of civil war, prominent comedian Stephen Colbert said last night that any states that support the Texas legal action are basically supporting the confederacy. That's quite a statement, and since people under 35 get their news from comedians, this could have the effect of getting people...

Re: The Coming Civil War - (Warning: No Politics)

I am stunned that our government is not actively working to uproot and disrupt foreign actors...unless some of them are actively working with these entities. I feel firmly in "tinfoil hat" territory when I suggest that though. For some reason, recruiting rural domestic actors worries me even more. H...

Re: The Coming Civil War - (Warning: No Politics)

With the election behind us (more or less), I had hoped that things would start calming down. Sure, I expect people to be unhappy and disgruntled but I hoped that a tendency towards violence would reduce. This appears to not be the case. Practically every internet forum I visit, and every comments s...

Re: Food Insecurity 2019

My local farmers are going gangbusters at the open-air farmer's markets. Plenty of milk, eggs, chicken and pork. Problem is, these places are expensive compared to grocery stores so this doesn't help low income folks. We mainly shop there because it's outdoors and less crowded, so less potential exp...

Re: Food Insecurity 2019

There are reports of rationing at grocery stores again as COVID cases spike. I'm not sure of the rationale behind this as I do not believe there are actually any supply shortages. My wife has been diligently preparing and freezing whole meals and ingredients for meals. I might be sick to death of bu...

My observation is that the VP has taken a much more visible role in the last 3-4 administrations.

That's about all I can say without violating forum rules.

Re: Preps for a Contested Election in November

The foreign consulate that has jurisdiction over the county where I live, is in Philadelphia. I wanted to come up to file my application for dual citizenship but obviously I'm holding off until things calm down up there. Huh :? The consulate of the nation that I'd like to apply for citizenship with...

Re: Preps for a Contested Election in November

Here in Philadelphia, the NG is posted all over center city. One scenario that hasn't really been mentioned is along the lines of the Kent State shooting in 1970, with the exception that Philadelphia would immediately explode in riots and we'll be bugging out ASAP. Phil Forrest The foreign consulat...

Re: Preps for a Contested Election in November

I've got some good personal news...if you can call it that. I've mentioned several times that my bug-out (if it comes to that) will most likely be by water. The million dollar question has been- Where will I go? Winter is coming. I've secured 2 separate water-accessible places in remote areas willin...

Re: Preps for a Contested Election in November

DC businesses are reported to be boarding up windows and door in anticipation of riots from a contested election. Not a real surprise, especially considering that DC is rioting right now because of another POC death. What *is* surprising, is that business owners stated that the DC government explici...

I have mixed feelings on the community self-policing thing. Anyone here live in an HOA?

Imagine a "Karen" with real policing powers. Have you seen that GEICO commercial?

Re: Preps for a Contested Election in November

If I caused the temporary lockout, I apologize for that. I was speaking in a strictly defensive sense when I made my comments. I brought it up because we were discussing the dearth of buckshot on store shelves. No, we haven't seen advanced equipped mobs in residential areas yet but there have been c...

Re: Shooting in Philadelphia

Because people are weary of people dead or abused at the hands of police being a constant in the news cycle so every time a new one comes up they assume it's the police at fault. I can see both sides, police certainly do use violence in justified ways and this seems to be an example of that but the...

Re: Preps for a Contested Election in November

Anti-fa seems to have crafted riot shields from the halves of plastic, 50 gallon drums. I think these could be effective against bird shot but not much else. DIY body armor crafted from cut up sections of old tires might also stop bird shot. The tread section *might* stop or slow smaller caliber stu...

Re: Preps for a Contested Election in November

Well, if the objective is merely to get the perpetrator to cease the undesirable behavior that they are engaged in, even bird shot should be effective.
I know that some rioters have discovered body armor but I'm not sure it's a widely available item. In any case, I doubt it covers the face.

Hey, since we're posting links to articles: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nat ... 997666002/

My head hurts. When you read which demographic is hoarding weapons and ammo, and the hypocrisy, your head will hurt too.
