Re: Wood and water.
A few weeks ago did a multi day hot tent outing. Bad weather was expected. My shelter system runs on wood, water and power. As I boil (though have backup tabs) wood and water are interchangeable. Before the multi day storm hit I got my ducks in a row. Though was able to get a bit of wood during shor...

Re: Wood and water.
In situations like that, especially in a hot tent, I like dedicated fire starters. I used to make it a point of pride to get my stove going with found materials, but sometimes I’d wind up taking over an hour to even get something going. Nowadays I subscribe to the P for plenty methodology and think...

Re: Wood and water.
Crazy night. Ice pellets raining down hard. Felt like little BBS when taking a piss. Don’t ask.
Got more water. Sawed up a dead standing witch hazel. Tree and shrub ID powers do help. Says it will snow till 9am but it seems like light. Have not seen the sun for some time.

Ice pellets for maybe 8 hours. Will turn to snow soon then snow all day and night tomorrow. Should have enough wood. Might need more water tomorrow. Not sure.

Wood and water.
Last night was cold. Maybe 19. Always feels colder early season. Got the wood and water working like a dog till the last minute. The storm is here. What resources do you prep just before a storm. Naturally assuming a tree branch doesn’t kill me there will be pics and video.

Re: Best bags for a Sawyer Squeeze gravity system?
I got the CNOC in the mail along with the winter supply of water tabs (burn about 20 of them on the fly each winter). Anyways it's a platy type bag which fits my Sawyer Squeeze nicely. Mini as well. I will post some pics in a day or so. Can't really say much more than that till I get a week of use. ...

My favorite is the Armytek Wizard. Hard to beat the power of a 18650. The AT Elf is also good.

Bacon Super Charged Hot Tent Rocket Stove.
Sorry for the cellphone pics. I was in a funk. Drove for over an hour to launch the Pulk sled only to find I hand more snow in my woods. Some snow at the trail head but it just ran out a few hundred feet into the pull. https://i.imgur.com/ogluZR2.jpg Too much gear to backpack in. I couldn't go home ...

Snow Peak Ti Spork Friction Fire Bearing Block.
I decided to revisit an old skill. For me the bearing block is the hardest part of the set to get working right on the fly. So like to improvise with items in my kit. What are the chances of me being wildly lost in the woods then forced to use a spork as a bearing block in a survival situation. Just...

Hobo stoves for scout fires.
I really like twig stoves to cook food and boil water but they have another use. These stoves can make for nice low impact, clean burning scout/small campfires. Sets up faster than a fire ring and leaves less trace for times when discretion is the better part of valor. Lets go for a walk. https://i....

Temps down to -6 wind chill maybe -25. Snow 1 to 2 feet. Guess it's time to test out the winter kit. Unless something comes up looking to take off tomorrow AM. If I have bars will update via phone. Not sure about the phone service. A questionable thing.

Re: Show Us Your Steak! | Men's Mental Health Awareness Challenge.
I've been kicking around the idea of a Biolite but I keep seeing bad reviews on them. How well does yours work? Ahh and my steak. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VPTan69_R1k/TmhIB1GXAqI/AAAAAAAAAFE/eoBLopUw_2Q/s1600/communion.jpg That one is the cookstove and is no longer made. Fantastic stove. I did a v...
