Re: Additional Window Security

So we have decided not to spend over $8k on aluminum Plantation shutters at this time. We have locking double pane windows which we feel offer a reasonable amount of security. However, we did just spend $1,500 on a Bullmastiff puppy. Dave, I assume you have a good alarm system already? And perhaps ...

Re: Measles outbreak in United States

I'm a doctor. People who don't get their kids vaccinated are wrong. It's really that simple. Yes, there can be complication from vaccinations. The complications are rare. Autism is not one of those complications, period. Most of the complications are minor. There are rare serious complications. But...

Re: Additional Window Security

So I heard back from the sub-contractor / installer for the aluminum plantation shutters. He quoted me an install price of about $500, much less than I had anticipated. This puts the whole job (not including taxes) at about $7,800. With taxes that puts me around $8,400. Not cheap, but not bad either.

Re: The Really Big One - PNW Earthquake

Perhaps not on the scale or magnitude of the Cascadia fault, but here's another recent article of interest on earthquakes.

Re: Additional Window Security

So I heard back from the Window Outfitters people today. I have a house that's roughly 1200 sq. ft. with nine windows of various sizes. I intend on installing the shutters on all of the windows (because what's the purpose of protecting only some windows?). The estimate is about $7,300. This does not...

Re: Additional Window Security

Hi folks. Being an Aussie I see a LOT of these roller shutters around. I have a few things I don't like about them. They can advertise an empty premises if you only have them down when you are out, like many folks seem to do here. They block out pretty much all light when down. This can be a plus o...

Re: Additional Window Security

So last night I filled out a contact form from the Window Outfitters website (see the link in my previous comment, this is regarding internal aluminum plantation shutters). I received a phone call from them this morning. It seems they are an Australian company that has set up shop in Texas. There is...

Re: Additional Window Security

Hello, It looks like I'm a little late to the party, but I've had similar concerns and was a little discouraged the people who seemed to have good products were in South Africa or Australia. I recently did another search and found this in Dallas Texas. Not quite in my neighborhood but encouraging no...

Hello from So Cal

Greetings, I've been a voyeur to this site for a little while now. I live in the greater Los Angeles area and discovered ZS a little while ago on youtube while researching disaster preparedness videos. My main concern is earthquakes (and the ensuing zombie apocalypse of course). I have level 1 CERT ...
