Re: Preps for a Contested Election in November

Apparently, Walmart has removed guns and ammo from their store displays due to potential civil unrest. If there is a riot, that might make things a bit safer.

Re: Most Underrated Items in your BOB/INCH/Get Home Bags

A needle. Add thread and you can sew stuff. If you need to use something sharp and pointy they work great.

If you have a swiss army knife then a sewing machine needle (which have a thicker base to hold on to) pushed through a scrap of paper will fit below its saw/file/pliers.

Please don't do it. Kids are usually unaffected but they still can carry it. Double treats next year sounds reasonable.

Re: Defense Against Hand Held Lasers - (not the shark mounted variety)

Look away and hold up a corner cube reflector. They reflect the light back where it came from. So someone who lases the reflector may get an eye full of their own laser. They may not like that.

Like Raptor said, do things (particularly voting) as early in the day as possible. The "professional activist" types with nothing to lose by being violent are likely to still be in bed at 9AM. Don't get into any confrontations. If you do, the footage may be edited and put on line. This may impact yo...

Re: Bow vs air rifle for shtf/prepping?

Depends what you want. Air rifles are great for backyard or indoor practice if you can't get to a range/shootable land. Air rifles are more accurate than bows or crossbows but less powerful- so good for small game. Good air rifles are more expensive than a .22lr rifle but are much cheaper to run. In...

Re: English martial arts

Sword and buckler is fabulous fun. Get some safe training weapons (2mm rounded blades with no points), some super strong fencing masks, make up some bucklers and get some padded armour. Then go sparring. Pull all the blows and you'll learn what doesn't work quickly and safely. Silver deliberately do...

Here in UK they found that ventilators didn't help much. They have been using huge amounts of oxygen though.

Re: How did Venezuela end up this way?

Venezuela has lots of heavy, sour oil. Not so much a problem when the oil price is high. When the oil price drops, the cost of turning that oil into light, sulphur free fuel really hits the bottom line. At some point it will cost more to fix the oil than they can sell the finished product for. Then ...

Dentistry In the UK, the dentists have stopped doing any work. Not just surgery but also check ups. I'm expecting that when they get back to work they will be swamped with emergency cases. In the meantime they are recommending pain control for anyone with problems. So I've tried to cut the sugar and...

Re: COVID-19 Thread

I'm not a doctor or a mathematician but at the risk of taking some stick, I'm going to drop this here. USA is now up to about 200 deaths. But how many people are infected? Maybe half a million! If the virus is 2.5% fatal in the general population then for every person dead, there were probably 39 ot...

Re: "COVID-19 Bug In tips exchange"

Not sure if it's a bug-in tip or not, but I've got a little (1/2 oz, or so) pocket-sized spray bottle of alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Or I did, until it ran out today. So I've refilled it with the denatured alcohol I use in my Traangia alcohol stove. It doesnt't smell of lime much anymore, and I m...

That was me with the thermos cooking. I use a plastic microwaveable one as it means that I can preheat with everything together and reheat after a while (with the top off) to speed it up a bit. Don't overfill or the food may expand and try to break your thermos. It is a good idea to match cooking ra...

Re: "Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

Bristol (UK) has everyone buying more food, toilet paper and soap. Pasta seems to be the preping food of choice. We haven't got locked down like Spain or Italy yet (I'd give it 1-2 weeks). The cheaper retailers have had less panic buying. I got soap a while back but then had to go out and buy moistu...

Hi All, I've not been on here in a couple of years. I think UK has lost any chance of containment. Working back from the current death rates to their likely infection point and then forward, increasing the infected using the confirmed cases numbers gives something around 100 000 people currently in...

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread

One thing worth considering is that this is an active virus. There will be a delay between someone being ill enough to go to hospital (becoming a confirmed case) and dying. If you have a weeks delay and the virus is trebling every week then the deaths associated with the current confirmed cases will...

Nice shooting. You might want to put a back stop behind the target. I use a paving slab that is angled a bit downwards so any debris drops in front of the target. The pellets self destruct when they hit it.

Is there a 21 feet rule for bears? Or is it 30 feet plus because bears have 4 legs and can probably accelerate faster? What was the range on one of those sprays again?

Re: Low Profile Protection for Your Nugget

Bullet energy is absorbed over distance, energy absorbed is force x distance. If you stick a solid, rigid object behind the flexible energy absorber the force goes up until the rigid object fails. The new force x distance has a higher force and lower distance to absorb the same energy. Unfortunately...
