Re: Why Firearms Commonality is Important

Seems there are 2 sides to the question as others have mentioned. There is the specialized gun crowd and I guess me  considering commonality of ammo. So the position is for you guys a specialized; which by definition means limited, gun is more important then having the ammo to keep all guns in ...

Re: Why Firearms Commonality is Important

But this isn't new. It's the same thing you did to "prove" that speed crawling is an important survival skill. No, that is not what I wrote, apparently you stopped reading the thread regarding my book, yet you comment! I am not mad I am looking at this as an opportunity to educate and try to help p...

Re: Why Firearms Commonality is Important

Each team member is randomly assigned ammo from a stockpile of 240 rounds in 8 magazines. Each team member is guaranteed at least 30 rounds or 1 magazine. Okay, what you're doing is cherry picking, or a very close relationship. You're constructing a perfect scenario that supports your ideas. I can ...

Re: Why Firearms Commonality is Important

It would appear almost no one read the original post nor the title of the thread: Did I mention anywhere that the only way to go is with commonality? I said why it's important. Some of you have supported the position that it is important but bring up other variables. I have no problem with that and ...

The Civilian and Military Preparation for the PAW

There have been some comments made by posters in other threads regarding how a civilian can't compare to the military given X or Y situation. I thought this topic was worth consideration. This thread is not about civilians fighting the military or government; so don't mention it, it's about being pr...

Re: Why Firearms Commonality is Important

I just plan to have ammo for the guns I have. I'm not planning on relying on other peoples ammo. Pretty much eliminates all those other crazy problems. Being self reliant is the overall idea in preparing! However, don't be a loan wolf at your own detriment. A squad is more capable then an individua...

Re: Why Firearms Commonality is Important

Any of you figured out I like friendly debate yet? I will try to remove all variables: shooter with X gun shooter with Y gun Firing at same rate If they do not have the exact same number of rounds one will run out of ammo before the other. So they are down a gun even though they have more ammo. At s...

Re: Why Firearms Commonality is Important

I mention in my post that I have gun experience. I also have camping and hiking experience! I have fired many different types of guns. To consider only experts can speak on a subject is the height of arrogance. An outside viewpoint can offer a new perspective because they are not influenced by dogma...

Re: Why Firearms Commonality is Important

My friends: Let's cut to the chase and put this issue to bed. I hope I present the issue in a way that makes it clear to everyone. Team A has 4 members with common weapons and ammo: Team member 1 has 7 mags with 210 rounds Team member 2 has 7 mags with 210 rounds Team member 3 has 7 mags with 210 ro...

Re: Why Firearms Commonality is Important

Shall We Play a Game? 2 Teams: Team A: 2 members: 2 of the same guns and ammo Each team member is randomly assigned ammo from a stockpile of 240 rounds in 8 magazines. Each team member is guaranteed at least 30 rounds or 1 magazine. Team A because they have commonality of weapons can share magazines...

Re: Fighting Kit?!

The US military is now one of the most experienced in the world. According to the Geneva-based Small Arms Survey – the leading source of international public information about firearms – the U.S. has the best-armed civilian population in the world, with an estimated 270 million total guns. That’s an...

Re: Fighting Kit?!

The USA would fare reasonably well in a zombie apocalypse, much of the population of other nations will be eaten alive. I have more then one doubt about it. The weapon often mentioned make no sense at all during a zombie apocalipse for various reasons (essentially too heavy, inefficient with many z...

Minimalst Camping or Deprivation

A PAW situation I would think assumes the loss of a lot of comfort and luxury, so what deprivation or difficulties have you endured in your life and what did you learn? No, this is not a contest of who has had the hardest life or hardships. I have gone 3 days without sleep. It was not hard, in fact ...

Is the Tomahawk a Useful PAW Implement?

Well, the US military issued it in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. So someone somewhere thought it was worthy to be in 3 different wars. The American Indians liked them, they survived off the land without modern technology. As a weapon: First a story. I had a friend that was going on and on about wha...

Why Firearms Commonality is Important

It's even more important in a PAW situation because I would think it's assumed there is no industry so no supply chain! It's not hard to imagine scenarios: Your in a 4 man team each armed with a .223 AR: One gun breaks which means the ammo for that gun is available to the others. You are the last ma...

Re: We Can Be Prepared Like No Others in Human History

I think the biggest problem is normalcy bias. If you have friends and family who think your crazy or won't prepare for anything, what do you think is the issue? I have noticed that people I know cannot dwell on negative events without getting upset or scared. They can't stay rationale. Let's see how...

Re: We Can Be Prepared Like No Others in Human History

I have seen reported pictures of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan armed with tomahawks. I'm gonna wager 99.9% of those G.I.s never used them except to pose for those pictures. I know the SOG company likes to advertise the popularity of their hawks in A-Stan, but Terry Taliban doesn't get that close. ht...

Re: We Can Be Prepared Like No Others in Human History

On a side note, my understanding is that while most canned goods won't spoil and will give you some calories for an indefinite period of time (assuming good storage conditions) they actually will start losing some flavor, texture and nutritional benefits, often in as little as 18 months. Of course ...

Re: Fighting Kit?!

I read every response and tried to build a synopsis with my own thoughts: Let's assume PAW which I think by definition means no government or law enforcement. Assume 3 days out and no vehicle. Weapons: The only guns I think should be considered are: .223 AR with 7 mags 9mm pistol with 3 mags One can...
