Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

Alright. I had some time today to get out and per Doctor Fabulous's fabulous suggestion, I did a similar test using a Ruger 10/22T heavy barreled rifle, scoped with a 4x16x44 scope, at 100yrds. Same target as previously posted, 8inch target. Same 100yrd dash, 10 well executed push ups (all the way d...

Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

Unfortunately, my local public range doesn't offer a place where I can test various patterns at various distances. But I have been putting in more time shooting clays and such. And the one thing that still detracts me from running a shotgun as a primary is the time and precision it takes to load. I...

Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

Hi folks! I know I'm late to the party but I though I'd chime in. So is the shotgun overrated as an anti-zombie weapon? Perhaps, but not nearly as badly as the OP claims. Sticking to common shotguns and common ammunition, I think the shotgun has important merits that the OP missed. As other some ot...

.223 will likely make it, with just enough energy left to punch a whole in the paper :) Give you a real test of your marksmanship while you mull over your options. On the other end of the spectrum, is 50BMG an option? I shot NRA High Power Rifle with a Major who ran a Rock River target AR. He had t...

Ok, here is what I did in Afghanistan (for those of you who never deployed or been to the field for extended periods of time, you become a PT freak, alcoholic if available, or find religion). Run a 5k. Power walk the same 5k. Then Ammo Box PT! Get two .30cal ammo boxes, fill them with sand. Then, WH...

Re: Always Aim for the Head, Right?

Oh, and remember that shooting at a stationary piece of paper that you're aware of, poses no threat to you, and have all the time in the world to shoot at is very different from actually needing to use a weapon because your life depends on it in a situation where your heart rate may already be up b...

Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

I'm curious about percentages of buckshot on target as well. I know how easy it can be hitting clays with birdshot, but it's the patterning and hit percentage possibility of 00 I'm curios about. If I had to run a dedicated zombie shotgun rig, then I would opt for as tight of a choke as possible + #...

Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

How many pellets on target? Did you run a semiautomatic rifle through a similar drill, or have someone else who prefers and trains with a rifle do the same drill? 1st target was 8 out of 9 pellets. 2nd target was 6 of 9. 3rd target was 2 of 9. But i know why, I had to take a breath. Threw off my ai...

Just asking what his background was all. To be clear, I'm not insulting anyone, or anyone's favorite weapons. And, the only topic at hand is the potential for the shotgun to be overrated for use against zombies . Keeping that in mind, I have no idea why you're curious about my personal background w...

Re: Cost of .22 in your area

Supply dried up/$$ too much.
I have my own stockpile but as the price and availability is questionable, I opted for a .22 cal air rifle.
Same fundamentals. Only thing I am missing is the recoil. And I can practice a whole lot vs little.
But I am putting down a lot of rats!

Re: body armor

I respectively disagree. Body armor has it's place. But unless you have the full support of CAS, platoon level infantry support, heavy body armor is likely a hinder as much as a force multiplier. What you gain, you lose in maneuverability. If you had a squad level or larger to platoon, infantry uni...

Re: reloading exclusively for HD/hunting make sense?

To the OP: If you dont have one, get a Chrony. Tell you worlds of what and how your reloads are doing. Every rifle has a preference for a certain bullet and to what length COL. get a bullet comparator for more accurate readings. Different powders will give different amounts of flash. I did some relo...

Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

I can make a head shot at a stationary target at 25yrds with a pistol . . . but with no stress, and taking my time for a well aimed, controlled breathing, careful squeeze shot. I have a lot more confidence with my shotgun for a shot like that. -FNH SLP, red dot topped, sling. Are you talking about ...

Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

And since I don't think it has been mentioned yet... A shotgun requires fine motor skills to load. And this needs to be repeated 6-8 times to fully load the gun. Reloading a magazine is much more of a gross motor skill, and only needs to be don once to fully load the gun. Even the fastest competiti...
