Re: Thoughts on my GHB

When you're done the rebuild, take a weekend and try and get home with it. I'm serious, test it for what it was intended for as that is the best way to know what works and what dosen't. Thats my plan... I love going out and hiking and doing things like that... I am planning on spending 3 days with ...

Re: Thoughts on my GHB

Awesome advice guys... I added a small thing of sunscreen and will pick up a small container of bug spray... I will ditch the extra paracord, I am always wearing the one pictured (or one like it), so I get it.. I will consider adding means of creating hot tea. Love my hot tea, and yes it would be ni...

Re: Thoughts on my GHB

As you add more weight to your sabercat, you might consider replacing the shoulder strap with suspenders, like the guys in these videos. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIAaLKz3T2s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nKAB5Qczlg Thanks for the link!!! I will watch it Thursday when I am back at work... I ...

Re: Thoughts on my GHB

I think I shot down the GPS idea early. It's a good thing to have initially. In a SHTF situation I would think GPS satellites would fail. In a basic get home ASAP situation they'd probably still be up, and it would be nice if you can use it as a PMAU beacon. I base all my GPS experiences with my ph...

Re: Thoughts on my GHB

Unless I missed it, you would benefit from a headlamp. Perhaps one that has a red LED in it for map reading or other things. Being hands-free is always a plus. thats another thought I had as well... I have several petzel head lamps (although none of them have a red led).. I may look into one. I agr...

Re: Thoughts on my GHB

I think shelter is more important than a few extra calories. Perhaps remove one of the packs of Datrex and toss in a 5x7 tarp? If the weather turned bad, it would be nice to have something to stay dry, especially if you don't have a change of clothes. The $10 one from Walmart is only about 8oz and ...

Re: Thoughts on my GHB

Looks like a good set-up. (I'm rethinking my kit now. Thanks!) Shelter looks like the only glaring hole. A mylar or Heatsheets blanket or disposable poncho will work in a pinch but I prefer to go with something more substantial. A small cheapo tarp would also work, but for my money, I second (third...

Re: Thoughts on my GHB

Multitool. I PERSONALLY feel that the GPS is a luxury item and can be exchanged. It takes up space, and weight. You should have your routes/backups memorized. You've got a compass, you've got a map? I like Keltys stuff ponchos. I suppose you could always keep two trashbags and use one as a poncho. ...

Re: Thoughts on my GHB

The silver can stay in your Jeep. Save the weight. About 52 miles, call it two days if you walk. I would suggest adding a GSI or like cup under one of your Nalgene bottles. I would also suggest you consider adding a Esbit stove (with 4 tabs in the stove) so you can make a cup of hot something, say ...

Re: Thoughts on my GHB

In all fairness you could go to one of the big hunting chain stores and get soap that absorbs scent but this is one time I would say pack the chemical hand crap, it does work reasonably well. Oh, I may have missed it, pack an extra large heavy duty garbage bag and pack your essentials in zip lock b...

Re: Thoughts on my GHB

Ditch the soap, any perfume is way more evident in the bush than any other scent. I've actualy ambushed my more tacticool friends all hidden (very well I might add) with thier ghillie suits because Old Spice and Ax has a very distinct odor. Add a shovel for burrying poop, human waste stinks and you...

Thoughts on my GHB

Hey guys.. I have posted before on thoughts on my BOB.... Got some great advice... Now I ask the masses again to give me an honest critique on my GHB. The thoughts behind this bag are simple and I base them on the "extreme" what if. I travel 10 days a month to work, I am there for 24 hrs and then go...

Re: New PERMANENT gun ban

If one thing is a plus right now, all of the increased firearms and ammunition sales should be helping the economy out just a little bit. Side not: Just bought 1000 rounds of 40 cal WWB at bas pro shops for 16 dollars and some change for a box of 100.00 (would have done this as well if McCain was el...

Re: Fire Safety

It looks like you are on the right track. One thing I would make sure of is the right ammount of smoke detectors in your home/location, and that they are all on bateries, either primary power, or back ups. Replace the batteries at least twice a year also at the same time clean your smoke detectors o...

So, lets start planning our next event. Hopetolive, Pirouette & Empty-V do regular BBQs. What do you guys think about setting a date and doing a BBQ. We could possibly talk about what type of Charity event to host and how to make it successful. Your thoughts, gang? BBQ is good... One thing to think...
